Who Is This "Doc" Guy, Anyway?

Derek "DrClayForrester" Springer: The Man, The Myth, The...Advice Columnist?

The Boring Background Stuff

Born May 10th, 1971, in Wayne, Michigan and raised in Port Huron, Michigan (with stops in Westland, Michigan and Watauga, Texas), Derek is a musician who happens to enjoy writing.  He originally started writing when he was directed to a writing site called Thought Cafe by a friend named Bobbie Laughman, where he wrote humor pieces for his own amusement, as well as the amusement of the other members.

Since that fateful day, he has written two novels for NaNoWriMo (both unpublished), as well as a third for nobody in particular that is not yet complete.  He has also written about fifty short articles about subjects ranging from beef jerky to what it feels like to sit in a bathtub filled with dog food.  They can be found on his other website, Derek Springer's Shameless Self-Promotion.

He is the father of three children - Amanda, 16; Vaughn, 9; and Nigel, 6 - and is twice divorced, although he's pretty sure he knows what went wrong, so he's okay with it now.

He is also the owner of more toys than a grown man should have, including a life-size replica of Tom Servo from the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000.

His main hobby is playing the guitar, and he's quite happy because people pay him to do it.

Why An Advice Column?

A regular member of EddieVanHalen.com, Derek wrote numerous "fake news" articles concerning the band.  In an attempt to branch out and create a newer kind of humor writing - humor-on-the-fly - he decided to ask other members to submit questions to him so he could improvise meaningless answers on the spot, in the hopes that someone - anyone! - would find it amusing.

They did.

Because of the positive responses, he decided to create an entire website specifically for the purpose.  And this is it.
